Subaru Aux Jack Installation

I have a 2006 Subaru Outback and I love the vehicle but it has one shortcoming. The only options for playing through the stereo is either through the radio, or with CDs. The easy solution usually is to put a new radio in, but during the mid 2000’s Subaru decided it was a good idea to make custom center console with a custom radio unit that wasn’t the standard size, thus making it much more difficult to replace the stock system with a new one. I figured that there had to be a way to add an aux input to the existing system, and and after researching it, realized there is a relatively easy way to add a switching jack input. The following video walks through adding a 1/8″ switching jack to a mid 2000’s Subaru radio. This switching jack is a cool connector which will allow the input device to bypass the radio when plugged in, and revert back to the radio when unplugged.
Some soldering, and a slight modification to the radio circuit board is needed, as detailed in the video

And here’s the pinout for the switching jack connections and where the connect on the PCB:

The part used was the 35RAPC4BV4 made by Switchcraft Inc. and can be found on DigiKey here for $2.22.
